Dare to Dream Then Do It by John Maxwell Chapter 4

TAKE ACTION Today the chapter is about taking initiative and action to work towards our dream. The first quote starts out by saying, “Dreams don’t work unless you do.” WHAT?!?! I wish that this was not the case. I wish that I could be like Mary Poppins and just snap my fingers and everything would just move into place for me. And, well, I may or may not have even tried it a time or two to see if I believed enough if I could make it happen. BUT NOPE. When I wanted my room clean I actually had to BEND over and PICK up my stuff and put it away. The same goes for our dreams, if we want to see them happen then we need to WORK and MAKE them happen.
What are you willing to do to be sure that you achieve your dreams? As Maxwell states, “Success begins with beginning. And it continues with consistent action.” What steps are you willing to take consistently in order to reach your dream. You have to start somewhere, so right here right now is THE PERFECT place and time. I will say that for quite some time now I have known that I was suppose to start this blog. God told me that back at convention. I have had so many thoughts like, “I can’t do this I don’t know what I am doing,” “I need to know how to get this out to the public and I have no clue how to do that,” “What am I going to write about?” The thoughts went on and on, but the truth is I didn’t need to worry about any of that because I had not EVEN STARTED. So not knowing ANYTHING and I am sure taking me far longer than the AVID blogger I started this blog but still didn’t get started typing up any blog posts though. Still too scared and unsure. God kept pressing me and saying, “I can work with ANYTHING, but I can’t work with NOTHING.” So here I am. This book club has pushed me into this and I am starting. Is it perfect? No. Am I still learning? Yes. Are thousands of people reading this? No. But I’ve started and that is what matters.
Next thing once we have started is consistency. WE NEED TO BE CONSISTENT. I am speaking to myself here as well. Tonight is a perfect example of this. I have been running around all day, I put my back and neck out today (just trying to get down to the toilet this morning, yep that is right, I put my back out while I was trying to go pee), I can barely stay awake and I was not going to get this up tonight. I thought I should just post that too much has come up today and I will post chapter 4 tomorrow. But then I had to think about it and HELLO…..Consistency!!! If I want you to follow along with this series and to be encouraged then I need to be consistent myself. Is this hard for me right now, as I can’t get comfortable to type this? Yes. I am having a hard time staying awake, but if I use excuses as to why I can not be consistent then you will do the same. Excuses are unacceptable and one of the reasons so many people fail. They never reach their goal because they don’t stay consistent and they come up with reasons as to why they “couldn’t” keep going. It is a choice and we need to choose to stay consistent and keep on working to accomplish great things. Because it is possible.
We will now go over the Action Thoughts as they are in the book.
1. “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start in order to be great.”
2. “The first two letters in the word goal is G-O.”
3. “Some people dream of worthy accomplishments while others wake up and do them.”
4. “Anybody who brags about what he is going to do tomorrow probably did the same thing yesterday.”
5. “People will never be what they ought to be until they are doing what they ought to be doing.”
Please tell me that you have read those a few times. If not go back and read them. Write them out and put them up on your refrigerator, as they are so true and valuable to our everyday lives. And with that I want to leave you with a few of my favorite quotes from this chapter. I hope that you will comment and leave your favorite quote from the book.
“Dreams without action plans are nothing more than a wish.” “It is only our deeds that reveal who we are.” And lastly going along the story of my blog, “A good plan vigorously executed right now is far better than a perfect plan executed next week.” You should have your dreams wrote down with a date and an action plan. Now is the time to GET TO WORK and KEEP GOING, stay consistent, people will follow, and your dreams will come true. God bless each of you and I am going to bed.
