Dare to Dream Then Do It by John Maxwell Chapter 9

Never Give up!!!  Well we have come to the end of the book and the last chapter is all about NEVER GIVING UP.  How many of us are guilty of giving up too soon.  Many of us never fulfill our dreams because we give up on them, let them go,  and quit all too soon.  All too often our dreams fall to the wayside.  My hope is that we will not give up, that we will press on towards our own personal victories. “I can is more important than I.Q.”–Clark Johnson

Growing up there was a rule in our house that we were not allowed to say “I can’t.”  If those words came from our mouths we had to drop down and do 10 push ups.  That is something that I have continued with my children. If we tell ourselves that we can not do something our brain takes that as truth and therefore makes is nearly impossible for us to accomplish.  So if there is a task/skill that we have not mastered that is the wording that we use.  “I have not conquered/mastered this yet.”  What message does that send to our brains?  Not only that we will be able to accomplish it, but also we will master and conquer it.  Same thing is true if we ever wake up in the morning and don’t feel 100% or are tired and we keep saying over and over how tired we are or how bad we feel we will continue to FEEL WORSE.  Why?  Because that is the message that we are sending to our brain and therefore, it is the TRUTH so our brain sends out those negative messages and feelings to our body.

Now let’s take that analogy into our Dreams.  Like many of you, (well those with Young Living anyway) I have the dream of hitting Royal Crown Diamond.  When I first started out in Young Living that seemed impossible.  It seemed like that would NEVER happen.  I looked at the monthly income disclosure statement and thought, “Wow! That would be sweet to hit diamond!” and my daughter said to me, “NO WAY, MOM you are GOING to be ROYAL CROWN DIAMOND!!!”  It took her saying that and me thinking to myself that this is the time for me to set an example for my kids that if you dream it you can make it happen.  So I have worked extremely hard, I have learned so much, and I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone to be almost half way through the ranks on my way to Royal Crown Diamond.  What once seemed like there was NO WAY that it could happen is now a matter of WHEN it will happen.  Our mindset and thinking is huge in being able to achieve our goals and then WORKING our butts off is next.  “I have brought myself by long meditation to the conviction that a human being with a settled purpose must accomplish it, and that nothing can resist will which will stake even existence upon its fulfillment”–Benjamin Disraeli. I want to once again say how much Nick is a perfect example of this.  When we were dating and he may have been 21 years old he said to me, “I will retire when I am 40 years old.”  To him retire meant that he would no longer be a slave to a time clock or working for someone else, but rather he would be working for himself doing what ever it was that he enjoyed doing.  I will say that even being married to him I didn’t see all of the little goals through out the years, and things that he did to make this happen.  In 2013 he turned 39 and in order for him to retire he needed for us to be debt free.  So November of 2013 he came to me with a budget and he said to me, “We will have the house paid off by the end of 2014.”  Not going to lie, I was a little nervous and thought he was crazy.   But guess what? His birthday is Oct. 28th and on that date in 2014 we looked at EVERYTHING we had and we saw that we could write a check and have our house paid off. (Now we did not do that right away because we would not have had a cent left to our name, so we saved up for a few months before actually paying it off).  But by the time he was 40 he could retire.  He had a Dream, he made a plan, he worked his BUTT OFF, he was consistent, and he NEVER GAVE up.  I learned so much that year from him, as that was the year that I decided to embark on this crazy oil journey.  I decided it was time for me to JUMP.  It is time for me to START DREAMING.  What is super exciting is that by doing so it has given both of us the ability to dream bigger dreams then we ever have before and know that it is possible.  So my hopes for all of you that have read this book and followed along is that you DREAM, DREAM BIG and then you SET OUT and DO IT.  The Sky truly is the limit, if you put your mind to anything, you can accomplish it.  Never give up on yourself and Never give up on your dreams.  There may be set backs and there may be bumps and bruises along the way but the victory is all that more sweet at the end.  You can do it.  Now go out there and get after it!

There are SO many quotes that I love in this last chapter.  “Don’t be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can make it so”–Belva Davis.  “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them”–Walt Disney.  “I pray hard, work hard and leave the rest to God”–Florence Griffith Joyner.
