DIY Healthy Hair and Scalp treatment

I am writing this because I have had to type this response up a few times in the last couple of days.  As many of you have seen, there have been posts going around and it is even in the news about this head lice super-bug.  YUCK!! YIKES! Are you Freaking out?  I know I was and just the thought of lice makes my head itch.  Unfortunately for us, we experienced this DREADFUL superbug 4 YEARS AGO!!  That is right, this is NOTHING new and I am telling you, I about had a panic attack myself!!!  Okay so I lie.  I did have a panic attack but I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  I will spare you all the details but let me tell you what, it is NO JOKE!!  These bugs are IMMUNE to RID and NIX and all of those other nasty chemical treatments.   When I discovered lice on my daughter’s head I FREAKED OUT!!!  And by FREAKING OUT, I mean like SCREAMED and told her to STEP OUTSIDE and don’t come in!!!  I Ran to walmart and bought boxes of RID for the entire family and every lice killing product I could find.  Well, after a couple treatments of RID (Two days in a row), which is a neurotoxin and VERY dangerous and should only be applied once a week, to once every 10 days, and then on the third day I applied Nix, only to find LIVE bugs STILL!!!!  That is right in less than 72 hours I had applied 3 different treatments to my daughter’s head and there were STILL live bugs.  YUCK!!!!  I knew at that point I had to find something different because she could easily have a seizure from all of the chemicals and neurotoxins I had already applied to her head.  At this point I decided to go natural and I used lots of Olive Oil about a 1/2 a cup (I am sure you could use coconut oil as well just needed lots as my daughter has CRAZY thick hair), with about 20 drops of tea tree, 15 drops of lavender, 15 drops of eucalyptus, 10 drops of lemon, 5 drops of Rosemary and 10 drops of peppermint.  (Those are rough guesses, because in all honesty, I was putting any oil into this mix that I could find and I really didn’t have a good recipe.)  I put this on my daughter’s head and then put a shower cap over the top and had her sleep with it on overnight.  Yes I am probably a little OCD excessive, but let’s face it we all want it GONE!  You can’t blame me for being this way.    The next morning wash it out and blow it dry.  Then take apple cider vinegar and soak the hair all the way up to the scalp especially around the ears and base of the scalp and crown of the head. Put a shower cap back on for a couple hours and then rinse the apple cider vinegar out.  The apple cider vinegar eats away at the sticky glue that holds the nit (egg) to the hair.  You have to then use a special comb to get through and comb out the nits.  Trust me when I say THIS works and is the best way to be sure you KILL and get rid of the nasty critters FOREVER.  NOW for the PREVENTATIVE.  Use Young living Lavender mint shampoo and conditioner and then add about 10-15 drops of Young Living tea tree oil to both the shampoo and conditioner bottles and shake it up.  You can make your own preventative spray as well.  Just use a glass spray bottle with distilled water and about 5 drops each of tea tree, lavender and rosemary.  Be prepared and prevent the lice from entering your home.  However if they do make their way into your home you now know how you can GET RID of LICE for GOOD!
